Esistono vari punti per iniziare l'anello del Monte Zatta, ed esistono percorsi di differente lunghezza, in ogni caso si attraversa una meravigliosa faggeta e si percorre una delle creste più interessanti sia dal punto di vista panoramico, sia dal punto di vista geologico. Si lascia la macchina in prossimità del Passo del Bocco, e si imbocca la stradina (A10) sterrata ed in pessime condizioni che porta all'ex Colonia Devoto (sanatorio), ma la si abbandona presto per imboccare il sentiero sempre contrassegnato con A10 che scende a destra.

ENGLISH It's possible to start the Mount Zatta circuit from several points, also you can choose circuits of different length. At any rate, the beautiful beech-woods will be included and you will pass through one of the most interesting peaks both from the landscape and geological point of view. Park the car not far from the Bocco Pass and take the road (A10) that leads to the old abandoned sanatorium ("Colonia Devoto"). The road is dirt and in awful condition, but fortunately you'll soon take the path (A10) that goes down to the right

Dopo una breve discesa, il sentiero inizia a salire con una pendenza moderata, spianando di tanto in tanto; si è immersi nella faggeta ed il panorama è la faggeta stessa con alcuni alberi che sono davvero maestosi, se si effettua l'escursione in autunno si vedono colori accesi di rosso ed oro bellissimi, si sente il rumore del vento, quello delle foglie che cadono a terra e qualche cinguettio. Si supera il Poggio Buenos Aires (1.114m), area attrezzata con tavoli e barbecue e si procede verso la vetta di ponente del Monte Zatta (1.355m).

ENGLISH After a brief descent, the path begins to climb with a moderate gradient. The beech-woods are wonderful and the landscape is the beech trees themselves, including some magnificent specimens. In Autumn the colours are wonderful; bright shades of red and gold, and only the noise of wind and falling leaves and some chirping. After Buenos Aires Hillock (1.114m) picnic area, you climb to the peak West of Mount Zatta (1.355m).

Lungo il sentiero si possono effettuare varie deviazioni per vedere le antiche neviere, alcune delle quali restaurate, il famoso "Faggio 40" crollato a terra durante una tempesta (il nome deriva dalla leggenda che narra come sotto le sue fronde, durante un forte temporale, abbiano trovato riparo 40 famiglie che erano in viaggio), il "Sentiero Natura". Raggiunta la vetta di ponente a quota (1.355m), si apre un panorama strepitoso sulle vallate ove si trovano i paesini di Reppia, Arzeno etc; il Monte Zatta è tanto boscoso e dolce sul versante verso il Passo del Bocco, quanto strapiombante e privo di vegetazione, se non prativa, sul versante opposto ove si possono osservare le bancate arenacee affioranti.

ENGLISH Along the path, you can make several detours to see ancient "neviere" some of which is restored, (huge holes in the ground where in the past, they used to press snow to obtain ice); the famous "Beech 40" collapsed during a thunderstorm (the name comes from a legend that tells how 40 travelling families took refuge under the tree during a storm). The "Sentiero Natura" (Nature trail) reaches the West peak(1.355m); the landscape of the valleys below is amazing. You can see several Ligurian villages: Reppia, Arzeno etc.. Mount Zatta is very wooded and gently sloping towards the Bocco Pass and in contrast steep and devoid of vegetation except grass on the opposite side, where you can see the famous sandstone strips.

Si percorre la cresta fino alla vetta Est a quota (1.404m), si scende passando per Prato Pinello, si supera la sorgete, si costeggia lasciandolo a sinistra, il recinto del terreno della ex Colonia Devoto (sanatorio), si raggiunge lo sterrato e quindi il Passo del Bocco.

ENGLISH Continue along the ridge to the East peak (1.404m), descend through Pinello Meadow, pass the spring, continue along fence of the abandoned sanatorium on your left, reach the dirt road and head to the Bocco Pass.

DATI ALTIMETRICI Dislivello totale (in salita) - Total difference (uphill): 500 metri circa Quota minima - (Minimum): 952 m Quota massima - (Maximum): 1.404 m TEMPI DI PERCORRENZA INDICATIVI Percorrenza dell'intero anello: 3h 30min NOTE SULLA ZONA E PERCORSO Il percorso è segnato in modo perfetto (segnavia A10) e non presenta difficoltà tecniche. Sebbene il sentiero sia pianeggiante ed ampio, ma privo di protezioni, è necessario prestare attenzione sulla cresta visto che il versante opposto a quello di salita dal Passo del Bocco è strapiombante. Suggerisco di arrivare con la borraccia piena visto che la sorgente che si trova sotto Prato Pinello, ammesso che non sia in secca, la si incontra nella discesa di rientro. Se decidete di pernottare, cenare o pranzare presso il rifugio Antonio Devoto al Passo del Bocco, suggerisco di prenotare www.rifugiodelbocco.it. Ricordo come solito, che la spazzatura non va abbandonata a casaccio ma DEVE essere riportata negli appositi bidoni che potete trovare presso il Passo del Bocco e che è bene evitare di accendere fuochi e/o abbandonare mozziconi di sigarette.

On the peak, take care; the path is wide, but the sides are very steep and there is no fence. It's better to start with your bottle full of water as you'll not meet the spring until after Pinello Meadow. If you decide to have lunch, dinner or sleep at the Antonio Devoto Refuge at Bocco Pass, it's better to have a reservation www.rifugiodelbocco.it. As usual remember that rubbish must be deposited in special bins at Bocco Pass, and not left to chance. Avoid fires and / or leave cigarette ends.
